Blast of the summer wine
MONTGOMERY FWC met at the Heritage Restoration Centre, Llanfair Caereinion on a summers evening. On arrival we were handed a glass of wine by Mrs Gluck who, with her husband Jo, has created a wonderful garden in this quiet backwater. For the many gardeners among us this place was a treat with its splendid array of colour and many unusual plants.
Jo Glucks furniture restoration business, run from the barn adjoining their home, is a fascinating place reflecting the variety of items of pine furniture that have been manufactured over the years. Much loving care had gone into restoring the furniture displayed there, pieces that would grace homes from humble cottages to palatial mansions.
We then drove westwards to the Dyffryn Restaurant, passing high cliffs of deep red stone. I couldnt believe my eyes but the white dots on it were sheep. There was a tractor parked in the restaurant car-park and a bull tethered in the barn next door. What a scene of rural tranquility.
The peace and quiet of the place was replaced by 40 or so members catching up on each others news and enjoying a very satisfying meal.
This club has organised a walk for its next meeting which will take members around the Llyn Clywedog scenic trail.
When asking for directions one of the members was told to follow the "dam" sign – a retort that caused the evening to end in laughter.
