Blonde male champ peaks at 4000gns

THE Blonde dAquitaine Breeders Society Silver Jubilee show and sale produced a top price of 4000gns for the male champion.

This was paid for Stocksfield Lottery, consigned by the Telfer family from Northumberland. This March 1995-bred entry is by Lixton Serendipity and out of a cow by Sornfallow VIP. Buyers were J Skeen and Son, Berwick-on-Tweed.

Peter Weightman, Co Durham, achieved two of the leading prices selling Hallfield Legionaire, an Aubin son, at 3700gns to G Milne, Kincardineshire and Hallfield Lomu, by Whistley Dollar, to A R Bell, Hawick at 3200gns.

Eric Mutch, Banff, proved the real value of his show cow, the Arlequin-sired Woodend Isadora. She stood reserve champion at this years Royal Highland Show and at this sale her son, Whitefield Landward, made 3400gns to W and A Bridgewater, Hawick. Landward is by Condor, 1991/92 French national champion and one of the latest imported sires to be made available to UK breeders.

Females sold to 2600gns given by M D Gamble and S J Rigg, Kelso, for the supreme champion, Mike Harrisons Shapfell Lioness, a maiden heifer by Wilodge Fremenco.

Averages: 33 bulls £1993; five rejected bulls £1438; 20 cows and heifers £1153; and 27 maiden heifers £943. Ravensworth herd – 16 females £1191. Colombe herd – 17 females £987 and four bulls £567. (Harrison and Hetherington)
