Blowfly strike risk is high, so check

IDEAL weather for blowflies has increased risks of early strike this summer, and producers should check lambs for evidence of strike and treat when appropriate.

Thats the message of Peter Bates, of the Central Vet Laboratory, Weybridge. Lambs should be checked, especially when they are scouringand dipped or treated with a pour-on when necessary

But check all products for meat withdrawal periods, he adds. As for adult sheep, he recommends using blowfly dips or pour-ons from about a month after shearing when wool is 1.25cm (0.5in) long.
