Boar taint action plan

BOAR taint in pigmeat could soon become a thing of the past, now researchers have identified and marked a gene which controls taint in boars offspring.

"This will be particularly useful for producers looking to export pigmeat as European consumers are often put off buying UK pigmeat due to boar taint associated with entire males," said Jeff Wood of Bristol University.

While the test is not yet commercially available, hopes are high that the work done so far will lead to less boars being used which could produce offspring with tainted meat. &#42
