Bolus kills larvae

CATTLE dosed with an ivermectin-based bolus excrete levels of ivermectin which kill dung insect larvae, according to a Hoechst-sponsored trial at Bristol Universit.

"Pats from the Panacur-dosed and unwormed cattle contained similar numbers of dung beetle eggs, growing dung-beetle larvae and fly larvae," said Dr Les Strong, of Bristol University. "However, dung from the ivermectin-dosed cattle contained no fly larvae, and only dung-beetle larvae whose development had been halted at an early stage."
