Bound minerals improve fertility

RUMENCOS mineral supplement range has been upgraded by inclu-ding minerals as proteinates rather than as inorganic compounds.

The firm claims that supplying selenium, zinc and copper as proteinates – bound to proteins – improves availability to the animal. The result is improved fertility and reduced somatic cell counts.

Costs of feeding minerals in this form work out at about 1.5p to 2p a cow a day above the cost of minerals offered as inorganic compounds.

But Rumenco says 60p a cow a day could be recouped in improved milk prices resulting from lower cell counts (01283 511211).
