BPISG calls for a judicial review
THE British Pig Industry Support Group launched its legal campaign against farm minister Nick Brown this week.
The group is planning to move for a judicial review into the ministers handling of the pig crisis. Most UK processors have agreed to deduct a voluntary levy for every pig slaughtered to cover the costs of the action, which has been estimated at around £100,000. Some processors have agreed to match-fund the sum raised.
A poll of producers has indicated 98 per cent of producers are in favour of taking legal action. BPISG hope to make the minister apply for EC state aid approval for pig producers, or to properly explain his reasons for not doing so.
