Brown promises action on beef ban
NICK BROWN, the agriculture minister, told parliament yesterday (Thursday) he would insist on legal action being taken against the French if they persisted with the ban on British beef.
He said he had been assured by Romano Prodi, president of the European Commission, that legal action would follow if the French failed to comply.
Brown said the ban was a clear breach of European Union rules.
France is to submit new scientific evidence on the 28 October to the European Unions scientific committee but Brown said it contained “nothing which is not already known”.
He expected the Commission to dismiss the French evidence.
