BS defends itself
British Sugar has vigorously defended itself against accusations of lax biosecurity (Letters, Feb 22).
George Lee, who has beet and livestock on his South Yorks farm, believes the lack of beet lorry disinfection at factories "stands biosecurity on its head".
But DEFRA sayss the most effective place for disinfecting vehicles is immediately before they go onto farms, says BSs Peter Williams. "We sent every beet grower a leaflet to that effect." *
