BSE inquiry — ‘Whats the point?’

THE link between bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) has not been not proved, and might never be, writes Fordyce Maxwell in The Scotsman.

In his opinion piece, he asks whether the inquiry into BSE will do anything more than give publicity-hungry scientists and individuals a platform to promote their theories on the disease.

He said he cannot see the point when Sir Nicholas Phillips, the judge heading the investigation, noted that the inquiry was not a scientific forum and anyone expecting a judgement on theories about the origins of BSE would be disappointed.
