BSP advance payments
NEARLY 90% of eligible farmers should have received their Beef Special Premium advance payment by today (Friday, Oct 20), according to MAFF.
The advance, at £68.65 a head, represents 80% of this years total sum of £85.82. The remainder will be paid, together with any extensification premium, between April and June 1996.
Payments also began in Scotland this week, with £64.36 a head (75% of the total) being dispatched.
Scale-back less than last year
MAFF says that there may be no scale-back in England and Wales this year. Meanwhile, the Scottish Office says that any scale-back is likely to be below last years level of 23%.
