Call for milk industry consolidation
THE UK needs just three or four milk-buying co-operatives, according to a quota broker addressing the Semex dairy conference in Glasgow.
Ian Potter said farm unions should take the initiative in creating a company which would carry out research into future markets for milk and milk products.
David Shaw of Sorn Milk came up with a simple explanation for the problems in the dairy industry: too much milk.
Mr Shaw urged the bottom 20% of producers to move out of the market.
