Campaign launched for science parks
on greenfield sites
SOME of Britains leading high-technology entrepreneurs yesterday launched a campaign to defy the rural lobby over developments on greenfield sites.
The group led by Herman Hauser, founder of Acorn Computers, is urging the Government to defy the countryside lobby by backing the development of university science parks on greenfield sites.
They want the Government to overturn local planning decisions blocking the development of high-tech parks around Cambridge and Southampton. They claim a further 1,000 high-tech jobs would be created if the developments were allowed to proceed.
However, ministers are anxious not to inflame the rural lobby which has come out strongly against developments on greenfield land.
