Campaign to put beef back on the table
THE National Farmers Union (NFU) yesterday enlisted the Household Cavalry to help get beef back on to the nations tables.
Ben Gill, NFU president, took agriculture minister Nick Brown to a beef lunch at the Hyde Park barracks in London to launch its “Proud to Serve British” initiative.
The Ministry of Defence has recently switched to serving only British beef to its troops.
The NFU campaign aims to encourage restaurants, cafes, pubs and other catering outlets in the UK to source British produce wherever possible.
It will be promoted to caterers in villages and towns across England and Wales.
