Campaigner elected to NFU council

By FWi staff

DEREK MEAD, the campaigning dairy farmer and leading member of Farmers For Action, has been elected to the National Farmers Union Council.

Mr Mead is one of two delegates elected by Somerset NFU to join the council after the unions AGM in February.

He was chosen under a new postal ballot voting system.

Barely a quarter of the 3200 eligible members voted, but over half of them named Derek Mead. He polled 421 of the 840 votes cast.
