HUGH OLIVER-BELLASIS

1295ha (3200 acres) mixed family farm.

Age: 52

Active in NFU for 17 years.

Elected to council 1989, subsequently serving on the parliamentary committee (vice-chairman) and food policy group (current chairman). Also chairs the compensation and compulsory purchase working party.

CHALLENGES FOR THE NFU:

Immediate: The problem of the strong £ and competitiveness in world markets, and the crisis in the beef industry.

Biggest single issue: Creating a team to represent all countryside interests.

"I happen to be a team player, and the key for me is building a new NFU team to tackle the challenges ahead. It must represent what the countryside means for the health and welfare of the nation."
