Carsons take Texel honours

A HECTIC week for Ballymena sheep breeders T J Carson and Sons started off well at the Northern Ireland Texel Clubs sale at Portadown where they made the top price of 3400gns.

This was paid for an unshown shearling ram from their Downkillybegs flock. By Pennine A-one, the lamb is sired by the high-priced Dutch import, Pennine Van Klomppe. Buyer was Robert Robinson, Dungannon.

The Carson family won the ram lamb class with another entry that finished best opposite sex to the champion. This Watchill Ballboy lamb made 2900gns to Mrs Lodge, Doncaster.

Straight after the sale the Downkillybegs team headed across the water with Beltex sheep for the breed societys sale where the eventual winner of the championship had Carson connections.

The 10 Downkillybegs ram lambs achieved an average of £1092 – a record for this sale.

AVERAGES: ram lambs £351; shearling rams £375 and ewe lambs £210. (Automart)n
