AN interactive cartoon kitchen to emphasise the risk posed by poor hygiene during food preparation and cooking was unveiled at the show by the Food Standards Agency.
More than one in seven people in Scotland suffered food poisoning last year, with many of the cases attributed by the FSA to poor hygiene.
Sir John Arbuthnott, a member of the FSA board, said: "The agency wants to see a 20% reduction in the number of cases of foodborne illness by 2006. To meet that target, we need to remind people just how important basic food hygiene is."
The giant cartoon kitchen has food hygiene tips hidden among the outsize fridge, cooker, sink and worktop.
And an ultraviolet "germ glow box" shows people just how clean, or dirty, their hands really are. *
