Chablis fills a slot
LATE autumn-sown NABIM group 2 quality wheat Chablis yields on a par with Brigadier sown in the same slot, according to the National Institute for Agricultural Botany.
That means growers switching to the so-called NVB variety can boost gross margins by securing a quality premium of "£70-£80/ha", says breeder CPB Twyford.
The firms new 12-page guide to growing winter wheats from late autumn onwards outlines the savings that can be made by sowing then rather than earlier. Tel: 01295-811677.
