Charges stay same

ABATTOIRS will not have to face a rise in inspection charges from the Meat Hygiene Service until at least Aug 1.

Farm minister Douglas Hogg announced this week that he had deferred the application of increased rates because of the current BSE crisis affecting the slaughterhouse industry. Mr Hogg said a review of charges would take place over the next few months in a bid to achieve full cost recovery for the MHS in 1996/7.
