Charity walker hits halfway mark

THE LONGEST day is over – and Thames Path charity walker Arthur Anderson is half way towards his target of 180 miles from the Thames Barrier to the River‘s source.

On Wednesday he covered the greatest one-day distance of the walk – 24 miles – to reach Reading in Berkshire.

Mr Andesron has already raised more than £3000 for the Guild of Agricultural Journalists Charitable Trust with the help of major sponsor The English Beef and Lamb Executive.

He was sent on his way on Sunday by the Mayor of Greenwich and a group of well-wishers from the Guild.

On Saturday Arthur and his wife Andrea will be guests of honour at a riverside barbecue at The Perch Public House at Oxford which will raise funds for the Butchers and Drovers Charitable Institution.
