Charolais bulls shine in Ulster

CO FERMANAGH breeders Wilfred and Edwin Bothwell were at the sharp end of trade for Charolais bulls at the Northern Ireland breed clubs show and sale at Portadown.

They took the top price of 4900gns, plus two other transactions at over 4000gns, on a day when 66 bulls averaged £2464.

The Bothwells supreme champion Coolcrannel Larry, by Grove Enterprise, created intense bidding before going to C Mcquitty, Co Fermanagh.

The Bothwells two other bulls were Foydra Landmark (by Brampton Forbidden) at 4250gns and Foydra Lancelot (by Maerdy Director) at 4150gns. Buyers were Fred Hanna, Co Antrim and George West, Co Fermanagh respectively.

Turnadall Leader, a widely admired bull by the Bowerhouses Topper son Blanerne Hustler, made 4400gns for owners A E and &#42 R Gordon, Newtonstewart, Co Tyrone. Buyer was John Kelly, Co Down.

The Oldstone Egbert sired Drummeer Lloyd, from Edwin Morrison, Maguiresbridge, made 4000gns to F McNally, Co Tyrone (Automart).
