Check drill for wear
VADERSTAD drill users should check their drill discs for wear and adjust coulters before commencing their drilling campaign this autumn, says the firms southeast manager Mark Ormond.
"The coulter should be adjusted so it is no deeper than the disc," he says, "The problem is that discs wear faster than the tungsten-tipped coulters, leaving the coulters protruding below the level of the disc. This then rakes up trash which is released in lumps causing untidy rows."
When the coulter cannot be adjusted any further, it is time to invest in new discs. Typically, this is after about 4000 acres on a 4m drill, says Mr Ormond. *
