A STUDENT Chef Challenge was the first event held in the MLCs new catering development kitchen.
Six NVQ3 students from the advanced culinary skills course at Stratford-upon-Avon Catering College took part in a competition which required them to use British meat in innovative ways in both a starter and main course.
The winner was Jamie Foreman (18) who presented "A plate of oriental delicacies" which included British beef fillet, pork fillet and lamb, and "A trio of British beef, lamb and pork with baby vegetables and roast shallots on a Madeira glaze." He received a cheque for £150 and a commemorative shield.
Second prize winner was Paul Shepheard (21) who received a cheque for £100. His starter was "Roulade of British beef filled with tappenade," and main course "Medallion of British beef with mushroom topping and roast vegetables."
The runners-up each received £50 and a commemorative certificate.
