Child health – HSEguidelines

NEW advice for farmers hosting childrens visits to open farms has been published by the Health and Safety Executive.

David Mattey, HSEs chief agricultural inspector, said: "Although the vast majority of the 10m individual visits to farms each year are enjoyable experiences, there is a small risk that visitors can become ill following contact with animals.

Straightforward hygiene measures, such as ensuring visitors washed their hands after touching animals, would reduce the risk of infection.
