Child safety push
THE Health and Safety Executive has urged farmers to do more to improve child safety on farms.
It is running a series of events to raise the awareness of child safety, to coincide with the Child Accident Prevention Trusts safety week.
Chief agricultural inspector David Mattey said 71 children had been killed on farms since 1986 in preventable accidents.
that could have been prevented.
"Children should only be allowed into farmyards under close supervision. Assessing the risks in the activities that these children were involved in would have prevented all of these incidents," said Mr Mattey.
