Chinese farmers riot
FARMERS rioted in Beixiang village, southern Guangdong, China, on Friday after they became suspicious that the scales officials used to weigh their grain had been tampered with.
The incident was just one in a long line that have erupted. Local officials are alleged to sometimes underpay farmers for crops and often impose illegal levees and fines.
More than 1,000 farmers were involved in the seven-hour fracas. Several policeman were injured, according to a local official.
