Claim a bonus if oil content is high

FARMERS could be missing out on bonuses available for oilseed rape with high oil content, NFU Scotland warns.

Growers must ensure they know the oil content of their crop and claim any bonuses due, says union vice president Peter Stewart.

"Oilseed growers must make the best of high prices to offset poor returns on cereals and lower arable aid on oilseeds. When selling their crop they should remember that they are entitled to price bonuses if the oil content of the crop is 41% or higher."

The oilseed bonus on a crop selling at £150/t would be £2.25/t at 41% oil, rising to £9/t at 44% oil. &#42
