Claim online or by post, farmers urged

By FWi staff

THE government is urging English farmers to submit subsidy applications over the Internet or by post because of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

For the first time, farmers and their agents may submit IACS Area Aid Applications online. Forms are available at www.iacs2.maff.gov.uk.

Further information on submitting electronic IACS applications is available on the MAFF website at www.maff.gov.uk/ebus/eforms/eforms.htm.

Alternatively, farmers must post this years IACS applications to meet the 15 May deadline because regional Ministry of Agriculture offices are closed.

Applicants are recommended to obtain appropriate evidence of posting, such as recorded delivery, to ensure that their application does not go astray.

Dedicated telephone help lines are being made available at each of MAFFs regional service centres and these are being advertised locally.

All queries should be addressed to the numbers advertised locally and not to the foot-and-mouth centres, said a MAFF press release.

Applications should be submitted well in advance of the deadline to leave sufficient time for checks carried out when applications are delivered by hand.
