Claims flood in after storms

STORMS over the Christmas and New Year period will result in more than £12m of insurance claims from farmers and country dwellers, according to NFU Mutual.

The group expects over 8000 claims, after reports of serious structural and minor damage.

In parts of Cornwall and north Devon, the damage is as bad as that caused by the great hurricane of 1987, says general manager Ian Geden.

The sites of all big claims should have been visited within 72 hours of the storm, says the insurer.
