Claudius is listed
HYBRID ryegrass Claudius has been added to NIABs intermediate perennial ryegrass recommended list in category PS for special use.
Claudius is a tetraploid hybrid between perennial and Italian ryegrass.
It is closer to perennial than Italian ryegrass in its characteristics but in NIAB trials Claudius had been compared with perennial ryegrasses.
Conservation trials saw the variety record 67 dry matter. Mid-season digestibility is low, so the grass is recommended for special circumstances where high yields are more important than digestibility.
