Club of the Year enjoyed hard work…

HARLESTONE scooped the coveted Club of the Year award.

The Norfolk club, celebrating its 60th anniversary, collected the prize after a busy year which saw a new £35,000 clubhouse built and a big anniversary dinner staged.

It was a case of third time lucky for the club, which had reached the national final – but missed out on the top spot – in both the previous two years.

"It all came together," said club leader Andrew Denny, who made the trip to Stoneleigh with about half the 60 members. "The whole Club worked together for it. It really felt like a club effort – which is what it is all about."

Involvement in stock judging and public speaking competitions were two reasons why Marijanna Price won Junior YFC member of the Year.

"Being in young farmers is about having fun and enjoying yourself – but learning new skills at the same time. You also get a chance to help the community and do charity work," said 17-year-old, Glamorgan-based Marijanna.
