College closure rocks pig industry

THE pig industry was hit by another blow yesterday (Thursday) with the news that the Scottish Agricultural College is to close its loss-making pig farm at Tillycorthie, near Aberdeen.

The farms 210-sow commercial pig herd has lost up to £90,000 over the past year, and will be mothballed until a decision is made about its future.

Health and welfare research work will be transferred to Easter Howgate, near Edinburgh.
