The BSE bombshell dropped by government ministers on "Black Wednesday" (Mar 20) has wrought havoc in beef and dairying circles. Week by week

FARMERS WEEKLY has kept you up to date on the latest developments – at a policy and a technical level.

Now, in conjunction with key industry bodies, FARMERS WEEKLY is staging a series of farmer meetings. The aim is to investigate the scope for farmers to respond to the BSE crisis within their individual enterprises.

Admittedly, policy decisions are still being made day by day. FARMERS WEEKLY will continue to keep you up to date on these each Friday. But at the meetings our speakers will provide a further insight into developments and take account of these when outlining technical responses.

The key themes at each meeting will be:

&#8226 Cutting production costs to take account of the heavy losses now being sustained.

&#8226 Planning to restructure both dairy and beef enterprises in the wake of the BSE crisis.

Each event will take place at a local agricultural college, running from 6-9pm. The programme is as follows:
