COUNTIES WITH WINNING STYLE

Young Farmers Club teams representing county federations across England and Wales competed in the national finals of stockjudging and stockmanship competitions at the 1995 European Dairy Farming Event which was held at the National Agricultural Centre, Warwicks. Results of the competitions are given below.

National dairy stockjudging – sponsored by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers – Junior: 1, Yorkshire A; 2, Somerset & S Avon B; 3, Montgomery A; 4, Gwent. Individual placings: 1, Helen Booth, Yorkshire A; 2, Kirsty Norman, Somerset & S Avon B; 3, Elaine Price, Montgomery A.

Intermediate: 1, Gwent; 2, Somerset & S Avon B; 3, Yorkshire A; equal 4, Leics & Rutland A and Pembrokeshire. Individual placings: 1, John Williams, Gwent; 2, Rebecca Dennis, Somerset & S Avon B; 3, Angus Dean, Yorkshire A.

Senior: 1, Yorkshire C; 2, Carmarthen A; equal 3, Carmarthen B and Cornwall A. Individual placings: 1, David Booth, Yorkshire C; 2, Richard Thomas, Carmarthen A; equal 3, Huw Harries, Carmarthen B, and Malcolm Coumbe, Cornwall A.

Overall team positions: 1, Yorkshire A (Geoffrey Porter, Angus Dean, Helen Booth); 2, Gwent (Robert Jones, John Williams, Phillip Williams); 3, Cornwall A (Malcolm Coumbe, Julian Walters, Sarah Eggins).

Stockman of the Year competition (sponsored by Midland Bank): 1, Geoff Probert, Herefordshire; 2, Andrew Brewer, Cornwall A; 3, Chris Horton, Devon A; 4, Rhys Jones, Carmarthen A.

National Young Stock Judge of the Year competition (sponsored by Midland Bank): 1, Helen Booth, Yorkshire A; 2, Clare Birch, Leicestershire; 3, Thomas Moscrop, Cumbria A; 4, Chris Wisson, Cambridgeshire.

The Midland Banks senior agricultural adviser Alan Wilkinson with the finalist in the Young Stockjudge of the Year competition which required contestants to have an eye for an animals health as well as its build.
