Court awards Rhône-Poulenc £65m

A US district court has awarded Rhone-Poulenc $65 million (£40m) in damages after finding that Monsantos Dekalb seed subsidiary did not have a necessary licensing agreement with the French company.

The licensing agreement would have covered the technology involved in Round-up Ready maize genetically engineered to tolerate Monsantos Round-up herbicide.

Monsanto said it would seek to have the award set aside by the trial judge.
