Cow heat detector glows in the dark

DETECT heat in cows and heifers more accurately and improve fertility results with a luminescent heat detector, says UK supplier Genus.

Genus says the Bovine Beacons can lower AI and semen costs by ensuring cows can be served 10 to 12 hours after standing heat, and save on missed heats.

The wing-shaped design means the Bovine Beacon will not wash, or fall off.

The detector is said to be activated when the cow is ridden once, for at least four seconds to ensure it is a true heat, turning it to a bright red which is visible from all angles, day or night.

A box of 20 Bovine Beacons costs £29.50 (01270-536536).
