CPRE calls for ‘new vision’ from Government

THE Government must make social and environmental considerations central to planning in the countryside, the director of the Council for the Protection of Rural England said today (Tuesday).

Speaking at the Local Government Associations rural conference, Kate Parminter called for a new vision for the countryside, needed because the countryside was changing and policy needed to reflect that.

Ms Parminter recommended that Government produce a White Paper as a framework for a sustainable future for Englands rural areas, and that a powerful cabinet committee should be created to establish cross-departmental budgets between the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions and MAFF.
