Crediton takes lead

FORAGE maize harvest is expected to be five weeks earlier than last year as dry matters continue to increase by an average of 2% a week.

Of the seven sites used in the farmers weekly/Coop de Pau dry matter survey Crediton, Devon, is the most advanced with a DM of 29.3%.

"This weeks rain has helped the crop at Crediton to green up and generally in the south-west crops have good grainfill and are yellowing nicely," says John Hardy of Coop de Paus UK agents Grainseed.

Crops on marginal sites were still performing better than last years crops, with good cob sizes and grainfill resulting from the high amounts of sunshine. &#42
