Cumbrian B&Ws -fast and buoyant

TRADE at the Autumn Consignment sale of Holstein Friesians at Kirkby Thore, Cumbria, was described by the enthusiastic auctioneers as "the fastest and most buoyant for many months".

Complete clearance of mature stock produced an overall average of £1500 with 80% of mature cows making four figures.

Eight herds were involved. But it was the yearling heifer Hunday Dombinator Light 2nd, from E Moffit and Son, that made the top price of 4000gns taken by G and D J Baird for their Wampool herd at Kirkbride, Carlisle. The heifer was out of a Prelude cow and had a PIN of £101.

At 3700gns the newly calved Bickleygate Horace Meg 2nd, from D P and F M Day, went to J &#42 and A M Warman, Bridgewater, Somerset.

Averages: Aytonian £1279; Bickleygate £1538; Clifton £1081; Hemble £1443; Hunday £1798; Lavenham £1710; Littlebridge £1439 and Upsall £1039. (Norton and Brooksbank)
