Cummins to invest in light diesels
CUMMINS Engines of the US announced a large investment in new, lightweight engines that will greatly extend its product range.
The new products will be suited to powering “compact” construction machines and other small diesel-powered vehicles, for which demand is growing.
The move is expected to increase the competition between Cummins and Perkins, the British maker of diesel engines which was bought last year by Caterpillar of the USA. Perkins has traditionally specialised in making smaller types of diesels.
Cummins would be developing the engines for “mini” tractors and light pick-up trucks.
