Cuts in food safety research

THE government has ordered cuts in the funding of research into the safety of British food. This is in spite of the current high level of concern about the issue.

The ministry of agriculture has cut the departments research budget by 4m.

This has meant a project by the Institute for Animal Health examining new strains of antibiotic bacteria resistant to disease has been cancelled.

Research has also been cancelled into infections of the digestive system and lungs of chicken.
