Danish MP stands on toys-for-pigs platform
DANISH Liberal MP Mariann Fischer Boels is bolstering her re-election campaign by proposing the countrys 11 million pigs be given toys in a bid to woo the growing environmental and animal rights lobby.
Her farm welfare reform plans include toys such as rubber balls to keep pigs active, along with washing facilities, clean bedding and a ban on the use of growth hormones.
She has failed to secure support from the party leadership. One opposition candidate derided the move when he said the next step would be to give pigs video cassettes and saunas.
