Death case heard
A SOUTH Yorks farming company was fined £18,000 and ordered to pay £2330 costs this week in connection with the death of a delivery man who was buried under tonnes of chicken feed when a hopper collapsed.
Magistrates in Barnsley heard that Bernard Foulkes, of New Marske, Cleveland, was delivering feed to Hill Top Farm, Thurgoland – a village between Barnsley and Sheffield – on Dec 8, 2000 when tragedy struck.
The case was brought by the Health and Safety Executive which inspected the 20-year-old hopper after the accident. *
