DEFRA passes cuts in welfare disposal rates
DEFRA has ignored a storm of protests from farmers organisations and rubber-stamped further cuts in welfare disposal scheme rates.
Mooted only last week, the new rates which came into effect at midnight on Tuesday have been branded "heartless" by NFU president Ben Gill. "This shows a brutal disregard for the state of thousands of farmers."
Further reduction of all tariffs to zero, leaving only a free collection and disposal service, is planned by the end of the year. *
