Delay 48-hour week — SNFU

THE Scottish NFU has asked the Government to delay implementating the new 48-hour working week regulations until 1 January next year.

The EU directive is supposed to operate from 1 October, but the union says that does not allow employers enough time to change working practices. It also points out that pay and conditions changes apply each year from 1 January.

The degree of flexibility proposed for agriculture within the directive is welcomed as is the extended reference period of 26 weeks for calculation of average weekly working time.
