Deli meats make loss due to BSE

The firms meat and delicatessen sector showed a £2.9m loss in the six months to Sep 30, 1996, compared with a £2.7m profit in the corresponding period last year. A downturn in first-quarter sales, the closure of a butchery plant, together with tighter margins from pork as prices rose, were among the reasons.
