Denmark goes organic route

DANISH agriculture could be 100% organic by 2010, if pressure groups get their way.

Among the most vociferous is the General Workers Union, which wants a total ban on the use of pesticides.

The Danish government has already started moving down that route, introducing a ban on 151 pesticides this summer, according to a report in the Soil Associations magazine New Farmer and Grower.

The countrys agency of environmental protection admitted that a wholescale switch to organic production was one option being given serious consideration, the report added.n
