Depth key cooling factor

VERTICAL ventilation can work well to cool grain and avoid insect damage and contamination, HGCA work confirms, but be sure to remember storage depth, advises ADASs David Bartlett.

"Our work confirms that the rule of thumb established practice for 3m depth works in most situations, which is comforting. But it may not work so well if you store deeper."

Ducts which are effective when 6.3m (21ft) apart in a typical 3m-deep grain store should be no more than 4.4m (14ft) apart if the depth doubles, he warns. &#42
