Dexter enthusiasm

BREED enthusiasts came from as far away as Devon to Chelford, Cheshire, for the dispersal of the Penrhyn herd of Dexter cattle for J C Medforth.

Top price of 460gns was paid for the cow Penrhyn Nightout, sold with an August-born heifer calf to Mr Darnbrook, West Yorks. The yearling Penrhyn Nigthclub made 370gns to Mrs Manchester, Leicestershire.

"Most interest was shown in the traditional type of short-legged Dexter," said auctioneer, Gwyn Williams.

AVERAGES: Cows £178, served heifers £250 and maiden heifers £132 (Frank R Marshall and Co).
